Head of Impact and Research Partnerships

(Business and Academic collaboration)

Salary:  c. £60,000 plus benefits

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, commercially-minded relationship builder to lead the strategy development & delivery of collaborative research partnerships across the University of Liverpool.  As a global institution with a campus in China, it is the largest provider of wholly online degrees in Europe and a member of the Russell Group of 24 research-led Universities.  With seven subjects ranked in the UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) top 10, including Chemistry, Computer Science and Engineering, the University has ambitious plans for growth and has made significant investment in teaching, facilities and accommodation across its city centre locations.

Reporting to the Director of Research, Partnerships and Innovation, the appointee will provide strong leadership to the Business Gateway, Liverpool IP and Consultancy functions, ensuring high quality, flexible and responsive services are provided to both external and internal customers.  Supporting the individual Faculty Heads to develop and maintain partnerships with key research users, the incumbent will strengthen the existing collaboration activity to increase the opportunities for commercial revenue whilst developing additional strategic partnerships.  This is an influential role with the opportunity to develop multi-disciplinary working and market-leading services whilst raising the profile and levels of engagement with both the Liverpool community and further afield.  The role will require a culture of continuous improvement, a demonstrable understanding of academic and business partnerships and the ability to maximise the delivery from a broad and experienced team.

Candidates, ideally qualified to degree level, with a track record of relevant experience gained in a research, business and/or knowledge exchange capacity will demonstrate strong understanding of IP exploitation, commercial engagement with business along with the ability to identify, evaluate and develop new opportunities across a wide range of sectors.  Extensive experience of bid and tender preparation will be advantageous along with demonstrable experience of strategy development, tactical planning and significant commercial delivery.  Experienced in academic collaboration, the incumbent will demonstrate drive, tenacity, ‘presence’ and strong financial awareness coupled with exemplary communication & presentation skills.  Listening, influencing and negotiation will all be key competencies along with strong analysis and decision-making skills and a positive, enthusiastic outlook which will engage others to deliver exceptional results. The expected salary is approx. £60,000 plus benefits.
