This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong, highly analytical individual to provide support and expertise to enable the site to comply fully with the COMAH regulations and other key health and safety legislation, codes of practice and industry standards.  Headquartered in Norwich, this highly regarded, privately owned and successful chemical manufacturing business enjoys a long-standing and enviable market reputation providing contract-manufacturing solutions to customers worldwide in both agrochemical and fine chemical markets.  Operational excellence along with industry-leading process safety underpins the success of this business, enabling it to deliver to an ethos of exceeding customer expectations built on strong market relationships.  The business has enjoyed strong performance in recent years and it is essential that the current exemplary standards continue to deliver future success.

Reporting to the experienced QHSE Manager with strong and effective relationships with Operation Plant Managers and Engineering, the appointee will replace the retiring incumbent to lead and manage the identification of process safety risks for all existing processes, any modifications or new processes through effective Process Hazard Analysis and Human Factors assessments.  With a strongly proactive approach, the appointee will be decisive, an exemplary communicator and able to process complex real-time information, regulations and future proposals to ensure that the site remains fully compliant.  The successful candidate will display strong professionalism and personal integrity, and be excited by the opportunity to take on such a critical position and to work with a very capable and collaborative business who are committed to continuing success without any compromise to exemplary levels of site safety.

 

Candidates, ideally qualified to degree level in chemistry, chemical engineering or a closely related discipline, will be self-starters with previous training in HAZOP, LOPA and SIL determination who can immediately build site respect and influence and who demonstrate drive, tenacity and strong teamwork.  Listening, influencing and negotiating will all be key competencies along with the ability to manage positive change and deliver performance improvement.  An enthusiastic outlook, strong IT & financial awareness and a demonstrable track record of close working with Government authorities such as the HSE & EA will be essential to support the preparation of Upper Tier COMAH establishment, which will be grounded in fundamental safety and base engineering principles.  Individual drive and professional team leadership will also be required to grasp this opportunity and to make a real difference to this organisation.
