Business Development Manager

(Custom Manufacturing – International Business Development)

Salary package commensurate with role and responsibilities

This is an excellent opportunity for a chemical industry experienced business development manager to join a highly regarded, industry-renowned company which continues to enjoy rapid and profitable growth.  From its UK base and through international offices and distributors, Thomas Swan & Co. Ltd. has ambitious plans for further development including overseas manufacturing and targeted acquisitions.  Privately-owned, the company custom manufactures and markets a broad range of speciality chemicals and polymerisation products into a diverse range of international markets, which require detailed and innovative collaboration, along with strategic thinking and strong commercial and partnership development to ensure the company remains at the forefront of their chosen sectors and realises their ambitious business plans.

Reporting to the Business Director – Custom Manufacturing, the appointee will be accountable for business development of the full product range of custom manufacture chemistries along with day-to-day management and development of a small number of key accounts within this ambitious division of the company. They will also have significant input into the supporting operational activities.  Following recent investment in both capital equipment and new products, this division is targeting significant growth in line with the company’s 5-year plan, which requires a proactive, hands-on, and influential sales developer, who can successfully deliver new business from both existing and potential customers to drive both revenue and margin growth.  The successful candidate will collaborate closely with all areas of the business to ensure common purpose and a co-ordinated approach, so cultural fit, professionalism, and market understanding will all be of paramount importance.   This is an influential role, and the right individual will bring an existing understanding and acknowledgment of the issues affecting family-run SMEs to enjoy contributing to the overall long-term development of the wider organisation.

Candidates, ideally qualified to degree level or equivalent in a science or technical discipline, will demonstrate a track record of business development, strategic thinking, strong teamwork, a high level of integrity and a desire to build strong relationships both internally and externally.  Experienced in the identification, development and successful closure of new business opportunities, the appointee will demonstrate drive, tenacity, ‘presence’ and strong financial awareness coupled with exemplary communication, data management & presentation skills.  Listening, influencing and negotiation will all be key competencies along with effective analysis and decision-making skills, and a positive, enthusiastic outlook which will engage others to deliver exceptional results.
